Name: Dyonne Niehof
Nickname: Donny / Don
Interests: Politics, theatre, travel
Favourite Quote: When they go low, we go high
Favourite place in The Hague: Peace Palace – a remarkable building with high importance in international law and current international order as it symbolises reconciliation, peace and justice.
Works/studies/lives in The Hague: I’ve been living in The Hague for a few years and work in The Hague for a political party at the national parliament.
My main motivation, with my job as well as other activities, is trying to achieve equal opportunities and equal rights for everyone. I believe that everyone can achieve anything that they set their mind to. However, not all are exposed to those opportunities, have been given the same resources, or support to even think about what they want to do in their lives. Knowing how lucky I am to have been born into a country where I am able to create my own goals, it has impassioned me to try and remove obstacles that deprive others access to opportunities, especially access to education.
In addition, I am motivated to make young people politically aware. Many young people have strong ideas about their cities or their neighborhoods, but they are unaware of how they can put these ideas into actions. Information about local politics is crucial, and I am passionate about making this information more accessible, so everyone can join the conversation.
