My Story

At the end of 2002 – when I was seven years old – our family moved to the Netherlands. I was pretty young for such a big move. My father had been sent to The Hague to serve its Coptic congregation. Did you know that there’s an Orthodox Coptic church in The Hague? I had absolutely no idea what to expect. What kind of place would The Hague be? Would we feel at home there? These were just a few of the questions whirling around in my head.

After high school, I started volunteering at the municipality of The Hague as a Youth Ambassador. Our aim is to bridge the gap between the city (local government) and the youth. My main focus is education. I took place in several education committees. My experience is that the municipality listens to the youth and involves them when they develop policy.

Furthermore, I am a guest lecturer for Unicef at primary schools. I provide lessons about multiple subjects, such as undernutrition and child rights.
Besides this, I am a third year Finance & Control student at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.

I have heard a lot of inspiring stories in Bogota, during OYW 2017, and connected with international leaders. They showed me that local change can have a global impact. For me it is an honor to be one of One Young World The Hague ambassadors and I am looking forward to share and connect with the leaders of tomorrow!

Three Must Things

  1. City Hall: it is my second home!
  2. The Hague Forest ( Haagse Bos): a place to get a ‘zen’ moment
  3. Hiking through the city
